New Things to Try and Buy in 2011

Geographe Crush provides a fantastic day out for people heading to Bunbury on November 6. The line up is good with new and improved food outlets and fabulous wine to taste and buy. And a few new activities to keep you and your friends and family longer.

Entry to the Festival

This year, individual entry will be $22 with accompanied children under the age of 18 free. Entry will include souvenir glass and access to tastings, entertainment, wine seminars, cooking and kid’s activities. Glasses of wine and also be purchased for consumption on site. Meals will be available for purchase. Take home sales of food and wine is also available.

The only place in WA where you can access the best Geographe wines in one place.

Impressive Food Stalls

Growers and caterers will provide an improved line up of produce and restaurant styled food. Up to eight stands have been allocated and we already have venison burgers and antipasto plates on the menu along with other festival favourites.

Beer on the Menu

We are pleased to announce that 2 local breweries will join us this year so you can enjoy a cleansing ale along with the wine and food.

Chefs On Show

Consultant chef Don Hancey will head up the main cooking stage and present menus from the regions best chefs:

Matt Leahy from Mantra Bunbury Hotel

Shane Spooner from Lighthouse Beach Resort

Brett Johnson from Vat 2

Ongoing cooking demonstrations will show off some fantastic regional dishes using local produce, including Collie Valley Marron, Blackwood Valley Beef and Linley Valley Pork.

The Cooking Demonstrations will be staged at 11.30, 1.30 and 3.30

Wine Appreciation Seminars

Together with the Geographe Wine Association, Crush is again pleased to present two fantastic wine appreciation seminars at the event on November 6 at the event.

12.30 with Peter Stanlake, Pith Winemaking

Exploring Grenache, Shiraz and Mouvedre

Peter will look at Grenache, Shiraz and Mouvedre, in isolation with wines from other regions and the Geographe. Then he will go into some GSM blends with a mix from a range of regions.

2.30 with Simon Burnell, Senior Winemaker, Willow Bridge Estate.

Tempranillo – challenger for the red throne in Geographe, or just an interesting alternative?

The Geographe Wine Region is getting a bit of a reputation for the quality this ‘alternative’ red variety from Spain achieves here. Can it really reach the same heights that the classics Shiraz and Cabernet can? Simon will take you through a tasting of some locally (and not so locally) grown versions and compare them to some of the best local Shiraz and Cabernet.

We recommend people take the time out to explore and understand the tastes that are starting to put Geographe on the Australian wine map.
